Words: Your Website's Most Powerful Tool

We all know the old adage "If a tree falls in the woods, and no one is there to hear it, does it really make a sound?" This was always a great conversation topic in grade school, but let's apply it to today's world: If you have a great website, but no one is there to see it, does it really make a sale? The answer to this one is easy. The answer is no.
If your customers can only find your site by typing in the actual web address, your web potential is being wasted. Why spend the money to create and host a site when only people who already know about your company are going to visit?
The marketing goal of your website is to convince people to take some kind of action: to buy, to join, to donate, to subscribe, etc. One simple technique will accomplish your website's marketing goal as well as drive the customers there in the first place: The power of suggestion, the power of communication, the power of words.
Search engines are what bring new customers to your site. Search engine spiders can't read pictures, they can't read flash (very well), and they can't read other non-HTML technologies. For the most part, search engine spiders ignore what they don't understand and look for what they do understand -- text.
The words that are visible to people reading the page are one of the key elements that search engine spiders use to determine what your page is about.
